Leadership Lessons: Solomon
A leader’s true value is measured by a stable organization. Thus, performance is essential, but not at the expense of everyone who works for that leader.

The Story
What good is a leader?
Aren’t they all about the same?
In short, leadership turnover is a problem.
However, long-term leaders are a liability if they become entitled. And, corrupted by power. Or, so inflexible and entrenched that they don’t respond to market changes.
Conversely, what’s the benefit of stable leadership?
Well, leadership development, clear succession plans, and engaged boards are good. Of course, growth in key markets is just as important.
A Leader’s True Value
Now, in First Kings 4.20-21 and 4.24-25 and Second Chronicles 1.13-17 is a summary of Solomon’s reign. It was marked by peace.
Because of these favorable conditions, the nation saw population growth. Also, more regional influence. And greater material wealth.
Now, that’s a success story for sure!
Leadership Insight
In practical terms, stable leadership improves sales. As well as sustainability. And, market reputation.
So, be that leader!
Conversely, high turnover at the top shows instability. And, it’s a symptom of erratic behavior. Thus, in Proverbs 26.18, Solomon called this unstable leader a “mad man.”
Leaders side-step these problems by managing for outcomes rather than for drama!
Some Fundamentals
First, leaders should develop a clear sense of their strengths. Then, work from those strengths.
Conversely, avoid everything always being about the leader because you’re not five years old any more!
Additionally, develop a decision style that balances analytical and interpersonal concerns.
These are some fundamentals for young leaders to focus on because they build influence and leadership impact.
Apply This Today!
Now, impactful leadership can reflect the style of the leader. As such, multiple styles can succeed.
However, personality flaws in a leader are dramatically magnified as the leader takes on greater responsibility.
Worse yet, a selfish and self-centered leader destroys as much economic value as an incompetent one!
