Basically, I free up resources to pursue abundance from the essential by releasing that which is unprofitable to me.
Discerning the Essential
What’s the essence of an abundant life? Thus, a life of personal growth and deep satisfaction.
Primarily, it’s the discernment to pursue that which is essential!
So, I free up resources to pursue the essential. How so? Because I’m releasing that which is unprofitable.
Abundance From the Essential
Unsurprisingly, Solomon discusses finding abundance from the essential.
Consequently, we learn that a person who grasps the essential (all reference from Proverbs) :
First, is influential, 12.8.
Second, receives grace from God and others, 3.4 and 13.15.
Third, enjoys life-giving abundance, 16.22
Fourth, releases the unimportant, 19.11.
What the Essential Isn’t
Conversely, grasping the essential contrasts with being:
Hard to deal with, 12.8.
And, with being deceitful, 13.15.
Also, with foolish overconfidence, 16.22 and 23.9. Thus, I’m not pursuing a goal at all costs.
Leadership Insight
Most critically, a leader grasps the essential when his or her life is in balance.
In fact, one of the best mental models for visualizing a balanced life is the justice-mercy continuum. Hence, I balance blind obedience to regulations with an openness to interpersonal needs.
Furthermore, impactful leaders effectively maintain this balance.
Now, in simplest terms, justice is knowing and doing what’s right. Whereas, mercy does right while showing kindness and empathy.
Consequently, I don’t believe justice and mercy are mutually exclusive.
So, when leaders get justice and mercy in balance they’re grasping what’s essential!
Balance is Expected
Actually, this balance is an ancient concept.
For example, “God desires for us to be merciful, not to simply go through the motions of being righteous” Hosea 6.6, my paraphrase.
So, the leader who gets this balance lives a productive and impactful life.
Apply This Today!
Pursuing the essential requires resources. Hence, there’s a trade-off. As such, impactful leaders release “good enough” to pursue “exceeding abundance.”
Most critically, I already have the power and the resources, within me as a person of faith to pursue God-designed and God-desired abundance.
Impactful leaders demonstrate an abundance mindset through their service to others!
Truly, I struggle maintaining an abundance mindset. So, how about you? What have you found to be effective in maintaining this mindset?
