I believe life purpose is seasonal. Let’s examine the connection between changing life seasons and renewing purpose.
Purpose is Seasonal
The changing seasons of life offer us the opportunity for renewed purpose. As our season of life changes, so also may our purpose change.
Renewed purpose pushes us to grow so we accomplish that newly revealed purpose.
Recognizing Seasonal Change
Sometimes, changing life seasons are easy to identify because of a significant event. For instance, we get married. Graduate from college. Change careers. Or, we lose a job. Face a difficult health challenge. Thus, we struggle to regain our footing although it’s clear we’re in a season of change.
Conversely, some seasonal change is less noticeable. We’re distracted and uneasy, but unsure why. Our confidence and certainty are down. We sense change, but are unclear about when and how.
Recognizing “a time to” is a critical skill. Solomon uses that phrase repeatedly in Ecclesiastes 3.1-8. There, he makes a series of contrasts. He notes there’s a time for every purpose or desire. We must recognize that time.
Truth is, there’s no strict formula for identifying and acting on changing life seasons. But, if we don’t act, we miss an opportunity for renewed purpose and personal transformation.
Renewing purpose – for what?
Flowing out of renewed purpose is passion for our divine calling. For example, we become conscious of how we can have an impact in the lives of others.
As such, passion accompanies renewed purpose. Hence the need for us to listen, respond, and grow – if we’re to maximize our influence.

We must balance growth as we move into the new season of life, with being present in the current season. That is, we balance presence and self-worth now with envisioning and pursuing our future self.
Let’s define success in terms of accomplishing life purpose. Thus, we know our WHY for this season of life. Moreover, we’re actively pursuing that WHY. In short, a successful life is purpose-driven.
Frequently, we pressure ourselves to know the one thing we’re to do for the rest of our life. Ha, that’s unrealistic! Instead, ask: “What makes sense for where I am, and who I am, right now?”
Most fundamentally, we must focus on, then act on, what matters most to us. That focus is a component of what I mean by saying “Live With Purpose, On Purpose.” The catch? Be wise about setting priorities!
A Question to Consider
We miss life’s seasonal changes when we’re distracted, self-consumed, or overly-anxious. Being present, and scheduling purposeful reflection, build awareness of seasonal change. What helps you recognize changing life seasons? Specifically, focus on fundamentals such as relationships and career direction.
