We desire to change. But, change where? Change how? And, why change? Let’s explore elements of personal transformation.
Why Should I Change?
In short, we change because we feel the need to change. We’re dissatisfied with life outcomes.
Ha, things aren’t working out how we envisioned!
Something’s really messed up! But, we don’t know what.
Worse yet, we’re old enough that we should be making sense of things!
Where Should I Change?
Ok, what aspects of my life should change?
Unfortunately, when I check personal growth gurus, I find lots of guaranteed-to-work approaches.
The problem? They focus on distinctly different issues. Like habits, or mindset, or self-awareness.
However, I’m still wondering how to know what’s best in my situation.
How Should I Change?
Now, even if I could answer WHY and WHERE, I still need a process.
Thus, some basic steps for self-examination and reflection, which produce clarity.
So, let’s step back away from specific emphasis areas to examine a time-tested process.
Four Elements of Personal Transformation
These elements cycle around a hub. As such, they’re self-reinforcing and beneficial to our personal growth.
1). WHO – Be comfortable with yourself. I’m convinced that a growth mindset allows plenty of room for self-worth. Therefore, begin with WHO.
2). WHY – Clarity of purpose is a motivator, plus a guide to setting priorities. Know your WHY.
3). HOW – Priorities should be purpose-driven. Truly, priorities drive the goals we set. And, those goals enable us to accomplish our life purpose.
4). WHAT – Finally, take a look at life practices. You know, those daily disciplines. We must pursue essential disciplines.
The Hub
Now, I believe the hub of this four-part cycle is a personal faith in God.
Moreover, I’m convinced that we’re transformed by faith.
Conversely, we’re not transformed internally by changing our habits.
How do I know this process is time-tested? Well, I’m copying this cycle directly from Chapter 4 of the Book of Proverbs!
Apply This Today!
The order here is critical.
Don’t start chasing your WHY until you are clear about WHO you are!
And, don’t emphasize habits until you are clear about priorities.
