Physical assets can produce a revenue stream when properly managed. In Proverbs we learn five asset management principles that enhance revenue production.

Want to enjoy a greater return on your assets?

Well, in Proverbs 27.23-27 we find five asset management principles. Here, the focus is on physical assets. However, the principles apply to financial assets as well.

The Essentials

Proverbs 27.23-27 gives a 1000 BC version of asset management. That said, the principles are both instructive and timeless. Here are those five asset management principles:

1). Know firsthand about your assets because wealth isn’t permanent, 27.23-24. Thus, I must be focused and diligent when stewarding assets. In short, pay attention!

2). Next, recognize the cyclical nature of assets and markets. Then, work within those cycles, 27.25. Why? Because markets don’t go up forever! Because I cannot rollover debt forever!

3). Generally, assets have different purposes, 27.26. So, I maximize return by knowing what asset produces best under different circumstances.

4). Often, assets require other, complementary assets, 27.26. For instance, herds require pasture to be fed, 27.25. As such, to be sustainable, I must maintain assets.

5). Finally, assets produce revenue or other benefit streams, 27.27, when I follow the first four principles! By the way, the focus here is on “enough.” Hence, be satisfied already!

Apply This Today!

Basically, focus and self-discipline improve stewardship of assets. Conversely, careless management of assets is rooted in poor character.

At times, I can be really good at asset management. But, some things, such as the weather or a pandemic, aren’t controllable. Therefore, provide some slack to offset the unexpected.

Remember, assets are a blessing. So, be a good steward of those blessings.

Finally, following these five asset management principles guide me into being a good steward of what I have.
