It’s empowering to know our life purpose or calling.

However, carrying out that calling through specific activities is another issue.

Therefore, Paul discussed the giftedness of believers in Ephesians 4. As such, that giftedness defines my role in building the church.

Some Insights

Actually, Ephesians 4 begins with some guidelines for serving.

For example, we’re to be humble and patient, Ephesians 4.2.

And, be at peace with others, Ephesians 4.3. Together, these traits are components of our spiritual transformation.

Why? Because of the similar calling and faith we share, Ephesians 4.4-6.

Now, in addition to our calling, each believer has received one or more spiritual gifts, Ephesians 4.7-11.

In fact, verse 11 lists a few roles in which we can use those gifts.

However, the gifts themselves are listed in Romans 12.6-8. Obviously, defining the gifts is a topic for a different lesson.

What To Do

Basically, I’m to use my gift(s) to build up other believers and the church, Ephesians 4.12. So then, that’s my role in building the church.

Therefore, as I’m a good steward of what I’ve received, others benefit.

Moreover, when all believers use their gifts, all benefit by growing spiritually, Ephesians 4.13. And, all are more discerning, Ephesians 4.14.

One practical outcome of using our gifts is the ability to truthfully support and encourage each other. Also, we do that in a way that isn’t preachy or harsh, Ephesians 4.15.

Apply These Precepts

Knowing my God-given, life purpose gives me confidence.

More importantly, I have unlimited potential to grow into carrying out that life purpose!

Actually, my gifts from God put that life purpose into action.

But, using my giftedness isn’t about me at all.

Instead, giftedness is all about my service to others so they’re equipped to reach their God-given potential.
