Life’s Not Fair!

Those with a victim mentality complain constantly about how they are treated.

Moreover, everything and everyone is unfair to them!

As a result, they never move past their glass-half-full mindset or grow professionally.

Instead, according to the first chapter of Daniel, he and others had grown before they were deported. And, they continued to grow once relocated.

As such, they’re a great example of the precept – to be a success grow where you’re planted. Thus, they knew what to do and they did it.

Grow Where Planted – In Practice

And, as it turned out, Daniel and friends were chose for a three-year training program, Daniel 1.5.

However, before being accepted, they had to meet the prerequisites, Daniel 1.4. In fact, those demands included that they be wise behaving.

The Hebrew word sakal is translated behave wisely. Thus, I choose how I act. Other words or phrases that translate sakal include: be wise, be instructed, have understanding, prosper, and have good success.

So, acting wisely is a factor in my long-term success.

Leadership Insight

Effectively, Daniel and the others were placed into a fast-track management training program.

Well, how do you get tapped for such an assignment?

First, watch your attitude. Even if, like Daniel, you’ve been forced into an unfamiliar situation.

Hence, maintain your character, but be willing to learn, thus grow professionally.

Second, be a learner with a growth mindset. Then, bring something to the table through prior learning and a professional demeanor.

Conversely, don’t be a no-growth know-it-all. Instead, live a purposeful life that’s driven by personal goals (see below).

Outcomes of Growing Where Planted

Now, what’s the outcome? Here, “stand in the king’s palace” thus have influence.

For Daniel, the outcome was a sixty-plus year career with significant influence.

Why this level of influence? Because he had an abundance mindset, clear purpose, a willingness to learn, and could make sense of things.

In short, Daniel succeeded because he grew where he was planted.

Apply This Today!

My opportunity for impact as a leader occurs where I am right now.

Conversely, it’s doesn’t occur once I’m where I believe I deserve to be.

Similarly, my impact as a leader occurs because I’ve been “faithful in the least” by being growth oriented.

Factual knowledge isn’t enough because it must be paired with being able to make sense of things.

Then, I communicate that sense making in a way that motivates others.

Unfortunately, when I coast along, and when I bide my time, then I’ve stopped growing. Then, my contribution declines.

How about you? Are you making the most of every opportunity to grow professionally? To grow personally?
