The Precept

In Proverbs 29.4 we read about the relationship between sound decision making and a flourishing organization.

That is, a leader’s good judgment has a far-reaching impact on the firm. More specifically, the precept here is: a leader’s judgment sustains an enterprise.

The verse uses the term “king”, hence the highest-ranking leader, to indicate that the practice must start from the top.

Ok, next question. How does a leader get there regarding making good decisions?

Some top-of-mind factors for building good judgment include:

critical thinking – that is, thinking fast and thinking slow,

wise counsel – identifying and being willing to listen to those who know,

use of intuition – How does this feel?, and

drawing from insights gained out of past experiences.

Those factors must be guided by a leader’s personal integrity.

Wisdom that’s grounded in a just character produces good judgment. Proverbs 8.20 paraphrase proverbsforprofessionals.net
