Our personal growth needs change in each season of life. Thus, it’s always good to ask ourselves Where should I grow next?

Grow With Intention

Certainly you’re aware that our personal growth must be intentional.

That is, our personal development must be purposeful — not by accident!

Additionally, you should know that personal and career growth is seasonal.

Hence, the old saying: “What got you here won’t get you there.”

In short, my current skill set and level of emotional maturity will not take me where I envision being in my life.

I must continue to grow. But, to what end? See Proverbs 3.2-4 for a list of significant benefits that come from intentional growth.

What Will Get Me There?

Ok, but how do I get “there”?

Thus, what’s required for me to function well in the coming season of life?

First, answer: “Who could I become in that coming season of life?” Do you get it?

The fact is, my potential is largely self-determined!

As such, I deliberately choose WHO I become when I carefully decide WHERE I need to grow!

Second, now I can ask where I must GROW next.

This second question is based on gaps I perceive, or have heard as a result of being mentored.

Consequently, I grow, in part, to address those gaps in my capabilities.

When I ask “WHO could I become?” I’m envisioning myself at the next stage of my life. That vision drive necessary growth.

Truly, WHO I desire to be drives WHERE I must grow, both personally and professionally.

Now, don’t get that order reversed, else you spend lots of time and resources on growth that doesn’t fit your personal vision or life purpose!
