Humans have incredible capacity for doing either good or evil. The discerning know the difference between good and evil.
This blog post contains my personal LinkedIn weekday entries for February 21 through February 26, 2022.
Where to Grow
Wanting to grow isn’t enough. Where specifically should I grow professionally?
Many take assessment tests to measure personality, strengths, weaknesses, decision style, emotional intelligence … you name it.
Get feedback from mentors, peers, and superiors.
Today’s Observation: Finding gaps in current capabilities and the desired future state is an important first step in professional growth.
One reason I don’t act on uncomfortable life situations is I’m too busy being the victim while not busy enough being proactive!
Don’t create more problems
I like to think of awareness as the very early stage of building foresight.
That is, being conscious of possible issues enables me to thoughtfully consider likely outcomes.
Absent that critical thinking, I blindly create all types of unintended problems.
Today’s Observation: In the pressure of getting things off of your desk, take time to consider likely consequences for your decisions.
Proverbs 22.3 warns us about ignoring warnings and rushing forward as if the rules don’t apply to us.
Knowing right, doing right
We tend to take shortcuts when we lack the self-discipline to do what really needs to be done.
Shortcuts aren’t the same thing as a better way to do a task. Thus, it’s better to say “No” to the obligation.
Today’s Observation: Knowing the right thing to do, and doing the right thing, are two different things!
From Proverbs 19.2 we learn that living in a rush is a destructive lifestyle.
Now what?
When feeling non-committal about your job it’s time to ask “How did I get to this point in my career?”
That is:
1). Did the organization abandon me? Or,
2). Did I outgrow this place?
Today’s Observations: Don’t assume it’s time to leave When uninspired, but do recognize the need to identify new growth opportunities.
Proverbs 6.9-11 warns about being disengaged as it leads to poverty. Instead of sleep walking, we are encouraged to wake up, be aware, and take action!
Good or Evil?
Humans have incredible capacity for doing either good or evil.
The discerning know the difference between good and evil. Then:
1). Those with integrity choose to do good.
2). Those without integrity choose to do evil.
Similarly, a country does evil because it’s leader is evil.
Proverbs 11.11 contrasts the destructiveness of a godless leader with the blessings brought by a leader who has reverential integrity.
Reflecting on our values!
We know what we value because we’ve taken the time and done the hard work to identify those values.
Today’s Observation: Challenging events let us step back, reflect, and recommit to what’s of ultimate value.
Proverbs 3.13-14 remind us that wisdom, as expressed by experiential insight, is of ultimate value.
