We can convince ourselves of lots of things, based on our perceptions. But, we must be aware that perception isn’t always reality!
What’s Reality?
My worldview becomes my reality — for better or for worse!
Ha – but, so does yours!
Now, be honest. Ever been absolutely convinced you were right? But then, you found out you were wrong?
Truly, our worldview may or may not be accurate. Or even realistic.
Even when we’re sure that we’re right!
Our life experiences inform our reality.
Moreover, how we respond to those experiences impacts what we learn from them.
In short, we must be careful about managing our perceptions.
Why? Because if we’re not careful, arrogance sets in and we become unteachable.
Blind arrogance convinces me I’m always right! proverbsforprofessionals.net
The Precept
Proverbs 21.2 is a warning. We convince ourselves everything we do is right.
However, we’re still subject to divine review!
In fact, both Proverbs 16.2 and Proverbs 21.2 warn us about self-consumption. That is, we’re right no matter what!
Ultimately, that negative trait runs up against our personal accountability to God Himself.
Being convinced I’m right doesn’t excuse me from being closely examined by God. Proverbs 21.2 paraphrase proverbsforprofessionals.net
Apply This Today!
An Observation: Perception isn’t always reality when we lack a sound character. Or when our way is the only way, thus we ignore the warnings given to us by life.
Actually, we must be willing to accept the (at least remote) possibility there’s universal truth that conflicts with our narrow and shallow world view!
Then, we must consider how our life outcomes suggest that our repeated choices are less than optimal! You know, ask yourself: “How’s that working out?”
Finally, a question: What’s something you’ve learned by being wrong?
Refusing to be reasoned with is extremely destructive. So, get a grip on yourself by accepting wise counsel. Proverbsforprofessionals.net
