We expect changes in life, but we’re not always happy about them! In fact, life transitions can be challenging for us. Let’s discuss that truth.
Where Am I Right Now?
I’ve learned there are transition points in life.
Some are subtle. Some, not so subtle.
For example, getting laid off isn’t subtle! Neither is being told NO in regard to a deeply-held desire!
Those transition points are times when significant change must take place if we’re to survive and then grow.
However, we must be aware we’re at a transition point. Otherwise, we miss an opportunity.
Then, we must do the hard work of changing.
But how? By being intentional:
1). Reflecting on what has happened,
2). Guarding our mindset,
3). Staying in balance, and
4). Adopting disciplined habits.
Remember, your perception is the reality you’ve chosen to live in, so choose your perception wisely! proverbsforprofessionals.net
My Personal Experience
I know from experience that a job loss drives us to step back.
Then, to reflect deeply about where we are. And, where else we need to be in life that’s NOT HERE!
Those times are when clarity of purpose, paired with persistence, kick in to move us to the next stage of life!
Actually, that job loss triggered a significant, and very productive career redirection for me.
Consequently, bad becomes good when it pushes us toward dramatic personal and professional growth!
Our life outcomes start with deep desires. We pair that inner desire with intense focus to produce deliberate actions. Hence, “as you think in your soul, so are you.” proverbsforprofessionals.net
The Precept
In 1 Samuel 17 we read how David killed a giant. As such, it was a significant, early career win!
So, how did he respond? He acted wisely, 1 Samuel 18.5, and as a result he prospered.
Thus, one takeaway here is that we must not let an early win go to our head.
Don’t forget that starting with a bang doesn’t make for an entire career that’s successful!
Similarly, facing a layoff or being told NO, doesn’t make your entire career a failure.
Apply This Today!
Life transitions can be challenging – especially when we don’t want to be challenged! Therefore, watch your mindset during those transitions!
Challenging circumstances are a great source of motivation in life — to become someone we currently are not.
Finally, a question: Select one transition point in your life. What actions enabled you to successfully make that change?
