Ever have your common sense hijacked? What happens next is mostly stupidity. Then we ask, What was I thinking?
This blog post contains my LinkedIn daily entries for October 24 through October 30, 2022.
Change Will Happen
You cannot stop some changes!
Over two years I finished an MBA, got married, and relocated to start my career.
We can cram big changes into little time!
We’re told “Life’s what you make of it.” More accurately, “Life’s what you reflect from it.” proverbsforprofessionals.net
Today’s Observation: The pace and amount of change around us is less important than the learning taking place inside us.
The Precept: In Ecclesiastes 4.8 we’re encouraged to ask “Why am I doing this?” (it says “for whom do I labor?”). So, step back and reflect.
A Question: What was a meaningful time in your life? Tell us why.
What Was I Thinking?
Ever have your common sense hijacked?
What happens next is mostly stupidity. And poor choices. Also regrettable decisions.
A balanced perspective on life is indeed a critical asset. Why? Because: One day of your life isn’t everyday of your life! proverbsforprofessionals.net
Today’s Observation: Be aware the hijacking is happening. Recognize we’ve off track. Begin a thought process for getting on track.
The Precept: Proverbs 19.11 cautions about getting distracted by anger. The cure? Use discretion to focus on what’s most critical at that moment.
A Question: What bails you out of dead-end thought patterns?
I Love Living Under a Rock
Recently, in a worship service, the 18-year old song leader told us that if we didn’t know the next song we must live under a rock.
Well, I love living under a rock! At 72, my musical tastes aren’t the same as those of an 18-year old.
It’s good to draw insights from life experiences, then convert those insights into something you can share with others in a completely different context. proverbsforprofessionals.net
Today’s Observation: It’s Ok for tastes to differ in things like music and clothing. It’s not Ok to lack discretion in how you speak to others.
The Precept: According to Proverbs 5.2 discretion enables us to control what we say.
A Question: What helps you think on your feet when differing with someone on matters of style?
Just Say No
A confident NO lets me say YES to abundance.
That abundance is waiting on the other side of my misplaced priorities.
We can, and should, live with purpose – on purpose! That fulfilling, purpose-driven life will be both impactful and influential toward others. proverbsforprofessionals.net
Today’s Observation: Clarity of life’s purpose will drive my commitment to the right priorities.
The Precept: In Ecclesiastes 7.25 Solomon shared that his life priority was knowing wisdom, that is, to live a precept-driven life.
A Question: What criteria do you use when deciding to say NO, emphatically and diplomatically!
Introvert Tip: Hidden in Plain Sight
For me, being an introvert makes it easy to draw inward. Thus, at times, to be excessively focused.
As a result of that focus, I sometimes miss those critical opportunities that are hidden in plain sight.
Introvert’s Question: What helps you balance necessary focus with broadening your perspective?
