What’s the essence of our influence on others?

Essentials of Influence
Here’s a simple, three-step progression regarding influence. This progression works in a number of contexts, including being a parent and as a leader. If we desire influence:
1). We must be credible. To have credibility
2). We must behave in a trustworthy manner. Being trustworthy, in turn
3). Demands consistency and integrity.
The flip-side of this progression is seen with a leader who violates trust. That leader doesn’t gain influence with those who are critical thinkers by demanding their blind loyalty. Instead, the untrustworthy leader garners disdain from those around him/her who have a conscious, thus can discern right from wrong.
Remember, leaders who demand blind loyalty are building a cult. And, a cult only benefits the leader, never the followers!
We must first lead ourself if we’re to have influence on those around us. We lead ourself by behaving with integrity – by being trustworthy. proverbsforprofessionals.net
What Influence Is and Is Not
The depth of our personal influence on others isn’t related to our native intelligence. Or, to a forceful personality. Likewise, influence isn’t related to physical presence or good looks.
Granted, influence can be based on position such as being a parent or a teacher. But, over time, even positional influence erodes without a sound character and consistent behavior.
So, what is influence? Most simply, influence is grounded in a trustworthy character. And, in our ability to listen carefully and then respond with our heart. Thus, influence says “I hear you. I get your concerns.”
Without intention there’s no impact from our life, hence no influence on others. proverbsforprofessionals.net
Apply This Today!
Self-belief provides us the courage to act with integrity. In parallel, a trustworthy character guides those courageous actions.
To be most influential, we must know our unique value, then be that authentic and influential self!
The breadth of our influence on many grows in proportion to the depth of our impact on a few! Thus, we must be faithful in the least to have opportunity to be faithful in the most.
