Finding a path forward is way-finding. Understanding life events is sense-making. Let’s discuss how sense-making relates to way-finding.

Way-finding Basics

We find our way in life by making sense of things!

How? By asking questions like: “What happened?” And, “Why did that happen?”

Fact is, we find a way forward, toward our purpose for example, by making sense of what’s happened to us. Conversely, we don’t stay stuck where we are!

But, How Are They Related?

Most simply, sense-making drives way-finding.

When we connect the dots of life experiences, through reflection, we practice sense-making!

Sense-making connects disconnected life events. Thus, life experiences lead to measurable growth when I take time to reflect on what’s happened. proverbsforprofessionals.net

Sense-making:

1). Drives-out uncertainty,

2). Reduces my chances of making inappropriate choices, and

3). Cuts down on stumble-in-the-dark behavior!

In short, sense-making is an essential life skill! Therefore, knowing how sense-making relates to way-finding helps us enjoy abundance.

The Precept

Now, in Proverbs 4.19 Solomon states the obvious. Which is?

Ha, we don’t know what we’re stumbling over when we walk in darkness!

The solution is obvious: seek the light of sense-making. The outcome?

Sense-making paired with way-finding lead us to a life of abundance, as directed by God Himself!

An abundant life knows its God-given purpose. More critically, that purpose-driven life pairs sense-making and way-finding! proverbsforprofessionals.net

Apply This Today!

Deliberate reflection is an essential tool of sense-making. So, block time on your calendar to reflect on what’s happened.

Moreover, deliberate reflection keeps us from missed growth opportunities!

Additionally, be teachable because it’s life itself, Proverbs 4.13 “…instruction is your life”. Actually, protecting our character is the essence of life, Proverbs 4.23.

Finally, a question: What reflective practices work well for you when you need to make sense of life?
