When we consider who we’re becoming we position ourself for growth, in the future!

Where We Are, Right Now

Who we’re becoming – – right now – – is determined in large part by who we believe we are – – right now.

As such, our current level of self-worth is the foundation, or baseline, for the personal, professional, and spiritual growth that follows as we envision a new self.

Fact is, we can be comfortable with who we are. And, at the same time, we can envision ourself becoming a more impactful and influential future self.

False Limitations

A warning: who we’re becoming – – right now – – is in no way connected to how intelligent we are or to externals like “luck.”

By saying “I’m never smart enough” or “I’m always unlucky” we impose false limitations on who we can become in the future.

We fall into the trap of saying “I cannot do that.” But, it’s much more conducive to growth to reframe our thinking by saying “I cannot do that YET.”

By reframing, we express a growth mindset that sees possibilities and lives in hope of who we can become – – if we choose to go there.

Life in Three Frames

Our frame of reference says much about where we’re currently living. More importantly, that perspective impacts our expectations for our future.

Thus, our perspective creates boundaries, or sets high expectations, for where we sense we can go in the future.

Now, what we’ve learned about life is our past tense. We accumulate experiential insights that we draw from. However, we must be careful about saying “always” and “never” that are the basis for self-limiting beliefs. We learn from the past, but shouldn’t live there permanently!

What we believe about ourself is the present tense of where we currently live. Here’s our opportunity to be emotionally present. To enjoy right now. And, to be influential, especially in regard to relationships that matter to us.

Most importantly, how we envision ourself is our future tense! That’s who we’re becoming IF we’re living intentionally and with clarity of purpose.

Apply This Today!

Envisioning a future self is powerful. That envisioning is especially powerful when it’s grounded in a clear sense of our life’s purpose. Thus, it’s good to know where we’re going, paired with clarity about why we’re going there.

Remember, envisioning isn’t the end-point. Instead, envisioning is the planning stage. What matters most are the actions we take to become that envisioned self.

Transforming our being – – who we are, involves knowing where we’re going combined with the doing of intentional living! That’s BE-KNOW-DO in action.

A Question To Consider

What daily disciplines enable you to be present and mindful while pursuing your future self? A hint – consider the Important-Urgent Matrix, specifically, the Important-But-Not-Urgent quadrant.
