Unfortunately, some habits are bad. Truly, a little neglect is dangerous. Especially, when the outcome is perversion of my duty as a leader.

Like it or not, lifestyle choices are deliberate choices I make.

Additionally, some choices are destructive. Thus, beware of neglect. Why? Because it enables those habits. Again, why? Because a little neglect is dangerous.

The Essentials

Ok, ever hear of moderation? For example, moderation in all things.

Guess what? One inappropriate relationship is as destructive as a series of affairs. Clearly, moderation in all things doesn’t work well in all things!

Why not? Because some behaviors are risky. That is, they don’t have an easy exit point. Then, things just get worse.

Now, in Proverbs 31.1-7 we’re hearing a mother-son conversation. There, she warns about risky behavior. Oh, mom!

Actually, she points out the risk for a leader. Which is? I forget why I’m in leadership. The outcome? Well, it’s poor decisions.

Moreover, the bad habits are there because I neglect the fundamentals of sound decision making. See Proverbs 31.5.

Basically, here’s the rationale.

1). For starters, leaders neglect their duties regarding decisions involving fairness, where undue influence steps in.

2). The result? The leader ignores the fundamental rules of integrity.

Apply This Today!

Well, no surprises in this passage! As it turns out, the potholes that destroy credibility are alcohol and inappropriate relationships. So, don’t be that leader!

Conversely, leaders earn influence by using interpersonal discretion

Actually, the problem with neglecting duty is the expectations-execution gap. Specifically, a careless lifestyle causes me to neglect my duty to do right. Then, I pervert the decision-making process. So, don’t do that!
