Insightful leaders can observe from nature four critical leadership traits that increase their impact within their sphere of influence.

Fearlessness, strength, and persistence combine to produce influence for a leader. In fact, leaders who apply these traits in a balanced manner enjoy good.

The Essentials

Proverbs 30.29-31 presents four critical leadership traits. As such, those four cause good things to happen around the leader.

Now, the first three traits are presented as characteristics of an animal, then close with a direct reference to a leader.

So, what can leaders learn from this?

1). Fearlessness: “…doesn’t turn away from anything.” Proverbs 30.30. Thus, the leader is willing to face challenge, have hard conversations, and make the tough calls. Certainly, decisiveness fits in here as well.

2). Power and capacity: Implied here is a girth for a saddle, hence carrying capacity. In other words, the girth is a way to effectively use power. Proverbs 30.31. Similarly, this could be read as deep confidence, which exhibits strength.

3). Persistence: Here, almost to the point of being hard-headed! Proverbs 30.31. Impactful leaders aren’t impossible to convince, but they don’t back down quickly.

4). Influence: Finally, we see a leader who is so influential that there’s no opposition. Proverbs 30.31.

Apply This Today!

This observation presents four critical leadership traits. Actually, impactful leaders successfully balance these and other characteristics. That is, they wear their authority well, without arrogance or indecisiveness. And, as a result, the leader positively influences others.

Self-confidence, persistence, and influence aren’t the same as ignoring wise counsel. Remember, “In the multitude of counselors there is safety.” Proverbs 11.14.
