What’s near the top of your gratitude list as you get older? That is, what’s most rewarding to you in this stage of your life?
This blog post contains my personal LinkedIn posts for February 7 through February 10, 2022.
Get the facts!
Leaders behave wisely by getting the facts.
However, they must combine facts with insight if their decisions are to be impactful.
I get the facts so I’m not operating off of supposition or error. This process assumes I’m teachable.
Factual knowledge and sense making are an essential foundation for a leader. proverbsforprofessionals.net
Today’s Question: Where are you in your leadership journey? Still shooting from the hip. Or, getting the facts, but struggling with sense making.
I said that?
Ever wish your mouth had a pause button? It does! It’s marked “self-control”!
Why do we need that reflective pause? Because otherwise we (me!) blurt out problematic stuff.
But, pausing isn’t enough if we go ahead and say the wrong thing. We need a pause + discretion.
So, the critical components here are:
1). Thoughtfulness
2). Self-control
3). Discretion
4). Self and social-awareness
5). Diplomacy
Today’s Question: What practices help you respond appropriately in a heated conversation?
Why did I say that? Because I lacked discretion. I simply didn’t think before speaking! proverbsforprofessionals.net
Proverbs 12.16 notes how foolish it is to respond immediately and in anger. Instead, we must think critically.
What’s most rewarding?
Recently I was asked this question in regard to my life as I get older.
Here’s my Top Five list of what’s rewarding right now:
1). A 46-year marriage
2). Repurposing once again late in life
3). Watching our children and grandchildren flourish
4). A growing faith
5). Good health and close relationships
Today’s Question: What’s near the top of your gratitude list today?
A clearly-understood life purpose is both a source of joy and a daily motivator! proverbsforprofessionals.net
Proverbs 10.22 teaches that God’s blessings deeply enrich our lives.
How do you define integrity?
Ever argue about integrity? With someone close. Who knows you. And, who knows the facts of the situation.
What if your view of the right thing to do is different from theirs?
It’s tough to respond when “right” is so differently defined by two individuals.
It’s tougher to move forward when someone questions your integrity. You are drained emotionally.
Today’s Question: How have you moved forward in a relationship after having your integrity questioned?
Our harsh responses indicate the gap between points of view. However, those responses also are a measure, I think, of the depth of our character. proverbsforprofessionals.net
Proverbs 20.7 teaches that a just character is marked by integrity in actions.
