Finding Good

It’s valuable to handle a decision wisely. Likewise, to effectively manage a personal issue.

Doing so, according to Proverbs 16.20, means I “find good.”

How so? Actually, the verse doesn’t say! But, we can guess that good comes from strengthened relationships. Plus, greater influence.

As a result, that good brings deep satisfaction to the decision maker.

Why? Because of their ability to behave wisely!

Interestingly, there’s no list of steps to follow for improving decision quality here in Proverbs. Instead, the focus is on the character and capability of the leader.

Leadership Insight

Too often, leadership skills become a numbered list. That is, steps to follow.

Admittedly, the lists include character and integrity. Thus, wise behavior and spirituality are central in Proverbs 16.20.

Conversely, behaving wisely doesn’t rely on native intelligence or positional authority. Instead, the leader’s motivation is his/her desire to produce good.

Now, this proverb is a comparison. As such, behaving wisely is compared to trusting the Lord. To me, this implies the following. The quality of my spiritual life flows out into my actions as a leader.

Therefore, to build capacity and capability as a decision maker, focus on integrity.

Not surprisingly, a relationship with the Lord guides that integrity.
