One take-away from Proverbs 23.7 is my constant thoughts drive my daily behavior. Thus, I am what I think I am – for better or for worse! So, to change myself, I must change my thinking.

I become what I constantly think about! What’s worse, my words may not reflect my true intentions.Proverbs 23.7 paraphrase

The Precept Explained

Precepts – as old as the hills! Proverbs 8.25

I become what I think about constantly. I’m what I choose to think. Thus, I’m a product of habitual practice.

In short, I am what I think I am, according to Proverbs 23.7.

What’s worse, in the verses prior, I’m warned about inappropriate motives, Proverbs 23.4. Also, I’m warned about a deceitful character, Proverbs 23.6.

Hence, bad thoughts and bad character produce bad outcomes!

Conversely, I choose the path of appropriate thoughts and growth in my character, which together improve life outcomes!

Actually, Proverbs 23.1 says that discernment is my ticket out of bad motives and poor relationships.

In addition, I’m to combine discernment with self-control, Proverbs 23.2.
