A godless leader is extremely destructive. This post identifies several traits of a godless leader.
A Conversation
In John 18.28 through John 19.11 we read a conversation between Christ and Pilate. Aspects of that conversation reveal to us several traits of a godless leader.
As such, the conversation includes several questions from Pilate, and responses by Christ. Of note is the question in John 18.38 where Pilate asks “What is truth?”
Today, as in the past, godless leaders attract lawless followers who claim to be doing the work of God in excusing their crimes. proverbsforprofessionals.net
Traits of a godless leader
Pilates question in John 18.38 indicates that he saw truth as relative rather than absolute. And, without this foundation, a leader will struggle to discern right from wrong. See 1 Kings 3.9 where Solomon asks God for the ability to discern between good and evil.
The questions and answers in John 18.33-34 reveal that Pilate was working from the agenda of someone else, rather than from his own values.
Repeatedly, Pilate shows a lack of integrity because he wanted to find an easy out from the situation. See for example, John 18.31, 18.39, and 19.6.
In addition, Pilate had no grasp of what true spirituality was, John 18.36-37.
His interactions with the religious leaders reveal a contemporary mix of false spirituality and politics, John 18.35, 19.6, and 19.15.
To make matters worse, Pilate pardoned a criminal, John 18.40; see also Matthew 27.38.
The violence of John Chapter 19 is another trait of a godless leader.
Just like in this account in the Gospel of John, godless leaders today attract lawless followers who claim to be doing the work of God in excusing their crimes.
Leadership influence demands integrity. In turn, that moral character demands self-awareness and self-control by the leader. proverbsforprofessionals.net
The Precept
As expected, there are multiple references in Proverbs to godless leaders. For example, in Proverbs 28.2 Solomon says there are many godless leaders.
Worse yet, in Proverbs 25.26 we read that sometimes people of faith endorse godless leader.
It’s impossible for a leader to do right when he/she is influenced by godless advisors, Proverbs 25.5.
According to Proverbs 24.24, it’s especially bad for a leader to excuse criminal behavior.
Finally, a godless leader stands in judgment before God Himself, Proverbs 16.12!
There are many destructive, godless leaders who lack discernment. Proverbs 28.2 paraphrase proverbsforprofessionals.net
Apply This Today!
Leaders who lack a spiritual foundation and integrity are destructive. Politics and religion are a lethal combination when the guardrail of absolute truth is missing.
A godless leader gets into power, and stays in office because those around him/her lack the discernment and moral character to call out the godless actions.
Remember, knowing the right thing to do, and doing the right thing are two very different things!
As a leader, be careful who you allow to influence you because you become who you hang around with!
